Specialty Networks, LLC (UroGPO, LLC)

Company Overview

Specialty Networks (also known as UroGPO) is a technology-enabled, multi-specialty organization that supports independent physician practices through group purchasing, practice-enhancement services, and data and analytics capabilities. The organization built a leading position in urology through UroGPO and expanded into adjacent specialties, including gastroenterology and rheumatology, providing a broader suite of solutions designed to strengthen both clinical and economic performance for physician practices.

Across its specialty networks, the company delivers purchasing scale and contracting economics, operational and educational support resources, and technology-enabled analytics that help practices translate clinical and business data into actionable insights. These capabilities are complemented by data products that serve both providers and industry partners.

By combining scale, technology, and practice-focused services, Specialty Networks positions itself as a long-term partner to independent specialists navigating an increasingly complex reimbursement and operating environment.

Deal Background

Nautic invested in Specialty Networks in February 2018 through the acquisition of UroGPO, a growing urology-focused group purchasing and services organization headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. At the time of investment, the company had strong growth momentum and the opportunity to add board level strategic support, management depth, and technology investment to reach its full potential.

The core investment thesis was to build a scalable urology management platform with a more diversified and recurring revenue base, and to extend this model into adjacent specialties over time. During Nautic’s ownership, the company expanded beyond group purchasing into higher-value services, including data analytics, consulting, and management services, resulting in a broader and more resilient platform.

Nautic Value-Add

Following acquisition, Nautic partnered with management to professionalize and scale the organization. This included strengthening leadership through the appointment of an Executive Chair and CFO, as well as supporting the recruitment of additional senior executives to guide growth and operational execution.

Strategically, Nautic worked with management to diversify the revenue model and deepen the company’s technology capabilities. The business executed add-on acquisitions, including PPS Analytics, and invested in data and analytics platforms, which supported expansion into new service lines and specialty verticals. These initiatives contributed to a significant increase in scale and enterprise value for the Company.

Nautic partnered closely with our leadership team, enabling us to execute on key growth initiatives including developing a tech-enabled data and analytics offering. By expanding our business, we were able to drive immediate growth and enter attractive new markets with clear future opportunity. We are thankful for Nautic’s thoughtful approach to our strategy.
